Architectural photography is one of my loves, with a background in architectural design, and in art, I’ve been photographing commercial and retail properties for many years for one of our family businesses, Allen Designers. Some of the projects they designed range from airport gifts shops across the nation, to local retail businesses across the South. For this downtown scene I used a 24-105 mm lens from the roof of the Madision Hotel at night.

Memphis Architectural Photographer-Brooks Museum of Art. We are so excited to be the official photographer for the Brooks Museum of Art’s new website launch. Here’s a recent shoot I did for the Brooks Museum of Art for their marketing, media and their new website. For this shoot the museum director met with us and selected our company to shoot a series of images for their new website and marketing materials. Every few years businesses should update their websites with fresh, new images and content. Some of these images shown in our portfolio are being used for their website, and others for print & media promotions. Our team shoots architecturals like these over a period of a week to 3 weeks, waiting on weather, event timing, and late evenings. It looks simple, but it is very hard work requiring long hours and just the right timing. For the evening shots, we brought in our lighting truck and supplemented the existing architectural lighting to evenly light the building. We also shoot a series of panoramas and verticles for a variety of client uses. Our client list includes Webz Media, The Mississippi Main Street Department of Tourism, The Delta Fair, The Oxford Mississippi Tourism Office, The Memphis Department of Tourism, Seaside the Town – in Florida, Hope Church, Romantic Destinations Magazine, Memphis Modern, and many, many more businesses across the south.

Architecture in Seaside Florida

Here’s a recent shoot done for an editorial shoot for Romantic Destinations travel magazine. A big part of photographing architectural images is a matter of time and patience. Outdoor lighting is dependant on the sky, cloud cover, sunshine and time of day. Some images can take several hours to photograph. A lot of architectural photographs includes detail shots, and for editorials, the details help support the main photograph. Special thanks to Seaside for their amazing hospitality and help in coordination of the shoot of their beautiful town. Seaside was recently chosen as one of the Top 10 travel destinations in the world. Photos by Michael Allen.
